Two calculators and a readiness check
Three simple tools to bring real numbers to your next quote comparison.
Deductible vs premium scenario
Answers which deductible actually costs less over a year once you factor in how often you expect to file a claim.
Assumptions this uses
- Assumes the premium difference between the two options is the only variable that changes
- Assumes claims history does not change your future eligibility or rate beyond what you've already entered
- Assumes both options carry identical coverage limits and add-ons
- Assumes the number of claims you enter is an estimate, not a guarantee
Limitations: This does not account for how a claim might raise your premium at renewal, or for coverage differences beyond the deductible.

Always compare the same coverage limits, not just the sticker price
A $90 monthly quote and a $140 monthly quote are not comparable if one carries the state-minimum liability limit and the other carries $100,000/$300,000. Ask every insurer for the same limits, the same deductible and the same add-ons before you compare numbers. If a quote looks unusually cheap, check the liability limits first — that's almost always where the gap is hiding.
Fee comparison
Answers whether a lower monthly premium with extra fees actually costs less than a higher premium with none, over a full year.
Assumptions this uses
- Assumes fees stated are the full annual total, not a promotional first-year rate
- Assumes no mid-year change in coverage or provider
- Assumes fees are compared over a 12-month period
- Assumes you have the exact fee figures from each insurer's paperwork, not an estimate
Limitations: This does not account for coverage differences between the two options, only the fee totals you enter.

The Auto Insurance Quote Comparison Checklist
A worksheet to standardize your quotes and the questions to ask before you switch or renew.

Answers whether you actually have what you need before you start requesting auto insurance quotes.
Assumptions this uses
- Assumes you're checking readiness before requesting quotes, not after a claim
- Assumes each item reflects your honest current status, not an aspiration
- Assumes this checklist covers common readiness gaps, not every possible one
Limitations: This is a self-check, not a guarantee that your quotes will be accurate or complete once requested.
